Taking the idea of decorative stitching, I referenced Giovanni Leoni d’Este's ' Anatomical Table (Evelyn Table) No. 4 ', who uses stitching to show the flow of blood through the human body. As the Evelyn Tables are some of the earliest anatomical preparations in Europe, I presented this on a page alongside surgical equipment of ancient tribes and an ancient Egyptian sculpture of medicine. Women have been encouraged to alter their image in the name of beauty for centuries, so I translated 'Healing Wounds' into hieroglyphics and mark made from this, which I was happy with as it generated more decorative stitching ideas. From the ancient surgical instruments, the idea of 'sculpting' the perfect body is often bombarded at the general public from the modern day media, be it through surgery or obsessive fitness.
